I fixed the grinder and wanted to make sure it would work right before I hit the orders. I saw this thing on the forge and decided to give it a go. Ive never made anything near this big so I wasn't sure what to expect when grinding it. Its flat ground but I left it thicker at the edge so it won't warp as bad in the quench. I also thought I would start convexing the edge before the steel gets hardened. I am pleasantly surprised with my grind on it! It should turn out really well. Sorry about the scan, the scanner is not big enough!

Chris, what's the blade length & handle length on that bad boy ??? Looks like a great chopper for a camping trip, day hike, or just to keep at the fire pit at the campsite . . . .
Looks good buddy, is there a laynard hole ??? Can't tell from the pic.
Be safe.

I think its 8 1/2 blade 5 1/2 handle and yes it has a lanyard hole! I might keep this one for myself, Ive been wanting a big blade for awhile. Its only 1/8 stock but I think it will still work out well.

Chris, you will be surprised at how many times you will find uses for that "big" knife . . . .
I have an ESEE Junglas that I use for camping and around on our property. That knife has cut, whacked, hacked, stabbed, sliced & diced, shaved, and "pryed" open stuck stall doors (yeah, I know but it was handy . . . . . :) ), cut open feed sacks, cut leather lead straps for the horses, manilla rope, and has felled saplings about the size of your calf with 2 or 3 hacks.
You might want to take it on your next camping trip and see what uses you can come up with for it. I think you will surprise yourself . . . .
Be safe.

Interesting. Looking forward to the finished product.

I'd hang on to it if I were you, Chris. Everyone needs a big knife to wack things with. :)
