On saturday 29.09 and sunday 30.09 we had the SICAC knife show in Paris. I have tried to make a lot of pictures, unfortunately my DV camecoder (as I don't have a digital photo camera) screwed up so I managed to get only the very first pictures from the tape :(

Here you can see Gert van den Elsen from Holland

Gert made the beutiful handles (with mokume bolster & ferule) of the wootz knives showed below. Achim Wirtz provided the Wootz blades a belgian maker (damn, I forgot his name) made the sheats. My photos suck, the knives look way better.

I had the honnor to meet Zaza Revishvili and play with his gorgeous knives. He's a very nice fellow, don't miss his table if you have the oportunity to see him at a show.

One of the knives that impressed me at this show was a Loveless design subhilt fighter with elephant bone handle, made by a japanese fellow (I forgot his name too). The grind lines on that knife are unbeliveble, the fit&finish flawless. I have seen Kressler and Schneider knives at this show too and I'm still impressed with this one.

The only purchase I made at the show was a push dagger made by Gavin Dickerson. I have ordered this knife a few months ago for my wife and Gavin sent it to me at the show. I'm very impressed with his work. For example, the bolsters are held in place by pins so well fitted that I had a hard time finding them. My wife is very proud of her knife and now carries it in her purse ;)
The knife has a 3" random damascus blade, giraffe bone handle and stainless bolsters & pins.
The sheath is made of cow hide + ostrich, and fits the knife very well.

Thanks for sharing, Flava. Some nice pic's and that push dagger for your wife is beautiful. How did you manage to get her something and nothing for yourself?;)

Those first to look great even if the pictures are not that clear. I think the sub-hilt fighter might also be a pretty fine knife.

Hello Flavius!

Sorry we couldn't manage to meet you again on saturday evening. We had a small problem finding some group members leading to a time problem. Well, next time for sure.

The name of the belgian maker who made the sheaths for the wootz knives is Alessio Salsi.

Thanks for sharing your impressions and the pictures!

Hope to see you soon!

Achim

Yeah, the pictures came out pretty messed up :( . A camecoder is not what you want to use to get good pictures. The light was bad too. The knives are much nicer in reality. The wootz pattern is very subtle, not like pateern welded damascus, so you have to have a good camera to get it right. That subhilt was realy flawless. I have drolled all over it. I can look up the makers name 'coz I remember the table position. The guy asked $1500, wich is out of my budget, but I must say it again, the grind lines and the finish were flawless. There is one kinfe I played with wich I liked very much, a 5" (I think) damascus spear point liner lock folder, by Zaza Revishvili. Unbelivebly fine knife, I hate that the pictures didn't work out.

Thanks for taking the time to show us those Flavius!

Got to meet Gavin and handle some of his work earlier this summer. Nice guy and pretty daring to take a 45 min trip with me at the wheel. Very clean and well done work also. Congratulations on your new dagger :)
