With all the nice photos of Patina blades the last couple days, I thought it would be cool to just have a gallery/thread of Patina.

I used Horseradish. Left it on there for about an hour.
Spicy horseradish sauce will work best.

How are you guys getting the spots and stains? Did you Sand down the surface?

I could only get a grey sheen - no spots or stripes - didn't sand though and used mustard and BBQ sauce.

Once I removed the coating from the Izula and polished the blade, I used a sponge and applied a cross lined pattern of just mustard onto the blade and handle using a sponge. I let this sit on the blade for about 12 hours. There were places I thought it was a little dark so I lightly polished those areas out until I had the look I wanted form the first application. For the second application I mixed just a little vinegar with more yellow mustard in literally splattered the mixture onto the blade. I let this sit for 24 hours. Then I rubbed the blade out very lightly and cut some apples. Put it away and been using it ever since.

I use the hell out of my Izula. I wish I would have taken more pictures as I think I would have owned that AR-15 lower contest. I've cleaned everything from White Tail, Duck, Coyotes, to Salmon and everything in between with that blade. It's taken on a totally different look since those original photos. It has some very dark spotting on it now. I think I like it better. If I ever get a chance I'll take some updated pictures.

Steps:

-Remove handles
-Let blade sit in paint stripper (approx 20-30m for me, used a weak stripper)
-Scraped knife with paint scraper
-Sanded with sanding block (fine)
-Washed, put glaze of mustard on blade
-Drew patterns in blade
-Let blade sit for 30-40m in mustard
-Rinsed / wiped mustard off with wet paper towels
-Dried blade
-PROFIT??

What did you have to do to get those hest scales to fit onto the izula?.

Thats a great design! did you cut yourself? It looks like blood on your finger in the last pic...

Thank you! No I sure did not, that's actually paint left over from a project I was working on while the RC6 sat in paint stripper. ALMOST tagged myself a few times though while I was drawing on the design.

I used my "Stunt" IZULA and put the HEST scales on it, then used a small bastard (can I say that) file and started shaping. Once I had it exactly like I wanted, I then transfered it to the stripped IZULA. I only used the plastic spacer for screw closest to the butt. I still have room for $ and a couple Advil.

What did you do to get that "Grayish" patina on the izula? Is that natural or some ort of forced patina?

Can't screw up the stripping part CTS.

Get some Klean-Strip stripper from the hardware store or Wal-Mart, remove the scales from the knife, coat the whole thing, wrap it in tin foil to keep the gasses trapped in to help strip it better, wait 30 mins and hose it off.
