Howdy,
I am running this question over at the Strider camp, too: What companies/custom makers does Paul heat-treat for (besides Strider)?
Thanks!
Barry H

Bub Worrell sold his heat treat oven and uses Paul. He said that the electricity at his house fluctuates so much that the oven can't hold constant temps, so doing it himself would serve to harm the process. Paul is great at what he does, and the price is reasonable.

Besides his own shop dedicated to custom knives (including Strider), Paul also oversees the heat treating at Buck Knives. That's one reason Buck has long had a reputation for "hard" steel. He does heat treating for a lot of us custom makers, and I'm proud mine are among those.

is the man! i send my stainless steels to paul. he takes pride in his work he is a master of quality control. bob loveless has had paul do all his blades for at least the last 15 - 20 years

Paul has done all of the heat treating for the Jones Brothers for right at 10 years now. Wouldn't trust it to anyone else.

Been using Paul since blade one, havent had a problem yet.. Pauls roster of makers is huge.
If you saw his shop, with the huge ovens, REAL cryo treating equipment etc, plus the mans knowledge you would understand why so many makers use his service.. Not to mention he is about the coolest guy you would ever want to meet.

Paul Bos is a magician at heat treating. No wonder so many makers and manufactures go to him to have their knives done.

he has a minimum.but i have see him do ones a twos for guys you will just have to wait till theres enought of that steel to fire up the frinance. d. holder throught K&G supply does blades for $5.oo a piece plus shipping.

Add Edmund Davidson and Cecil Self to that list.

I was gearing up to start doing my own heat treating until I Tried Paul Bos. No need now! No way I could match his quality at his prices!

He is great to work with too!

Paul is absolutely awesome!

He came recommended to me when I first got into this stuff and I started using his services simply because of the recommendation. After awhile I realized and understood that he's the BEST in the industry for custom makers.

Paul totally saved my a$$ a few weeks ago by getting three daggers done for me in an extremely quick turn-around.

He is a busy busy man, but I recommend him with the highest reguard.

Now that I'm getting into forging and doing heat-treating myself on carbon steels it's fun... but without question I will continue to send all air hardening steels to Paul.

And yes, he will heat-treat for anyone that wants to get started...he did for me.

It's funny, I don't make knives but I noticed an odd thing in this post. A lot of my favorite makers all use Paul! Even I can come up to the idea that there must be a good reason.

Paul Bos is awesome. When i started a couple summers ago, I got some A2, ground the blades out, and sent them to him. They came back great! he does do small batches, but it will cost a little more, but it is well worth it IMHO. I have gotten D2 and ATS from him that are incredible :) All my stainless and tool steels go to him, but I still like to HT O-1 and 1084 stuff myself, as I can learn from it, but I still like sending to Paul. I have 5 blades ready to go out next week, if u r looking to send some out, email me and ill throw them in with mine.

Paul has been doing mine for almost 20 years,I have never had a thing to complain about. He's the best.

Thanks for the great response! I am not a maker, not yet anyway. Maybe I'll eventually take some sort of attempt. I am just trying to figure out who I can buy a knife from that has been treated by Paul. I have a Strider on order, but I am looking at a 3-6 month wait.
And I am just a little impatient--hoping to latch on to something sooner. So keep those names comin'. I'm checking everyone out!
Thanks!
Barry H.
