I thought I had recalled a recent thread about the difficulties of photographing pearl and getting the nuances of the color but have been unable to locate it.

Pearl is extrememly difficult to handle. Just purchased this weekend a fine folder by JW Smith with Eggerling damascus blade and mosaic bolsters and incredible colorful pearl. Lots of greens and pinks and of course much white if you just miss by a bit in the lighting.

The images attached are not bad and show the color of the heat treated, blued damascus and the pearl color no too bad. Very difficult to hold both ends of the contrast spectrum.

I may try more later on but for now here are 2 images.

You did a pretty good job of capturing the colors of that pearl. It is very difficult to do. The damascus bolsters look great as well and I really like the dackground in the second picture.

thanks Keith. What I was really please with is that the blade looks proper and the colors in it are the same as those that one can see in the pearl. JW did a great job of dealing with that. I really like his liner locks as I think they have the smoothest action I have ever encountered. A couple others are close though.

I'm going to have to spend some time with a Centofante that has BLP which is difficult to get right too.

Nice score, Murray. That is stunning. I'm with Keith--your pic is wonderful. Far better than most!

I like the gold accent on the bolster. Very classy. Hey, there seems to be a shade of greeen on the blade in both shots. It looks cool. :D Is that real?

Thanks Coop

Yup there is both green and a pinky-red tone to the colored damascus. I'd assume it was heatcolored before being blued by JWS. I think he was trying to carry the theme of the pearl (pink/green) into the blade.

This is why I was quite pleased with my second effort (now that I own the knife lol) in obtaining an image that showed both the pearl and the blade color. It makes for an exciting image as well as an exciting knife.

Great knife and super pics Murray - everything about that knife is terrific (including the buttery-smooth action) but the thing that really stands out in my mind is the pearl - you could just about hypnotize yourself watching those colours dance about.

Cheers

Roger
