OK, keeping in mind that these three knives really have nothing in common, except for the fact that they're similar in size and in roughly the same price range, which would you choose? And, for the purposes of this question, what I plan to use the knife for is completely irrelevant (don't hunt, fish, or camp, and rarely do more than cut down a cardboard box or trim a loose thread, anyway). Not only that, your answers probably won't influence my decision in the slightest.

CRK Mnandi - http://www.chrisreeve.com/mnandi.html

Dozier Folding Hunter (small) - http://www.dozierknives.com/dk-fhsmall.html

Whitewing Pearl Lockback - http://www.knifeart.com/pearllockback1.html

I'd pick the Dozier. It is the toughest one you've listed, yet it still retains its elegance. Not to mention that it uses Dozier's Tab Lock, that seems a lot more stronger than a normal liner lock.

Okay, a nihilist thread. But since you are begging for guidance, I would recommend the Mnandi.

Although I have personally been eyeing the Whitewing over the past couple of months, I satisfied the urge by getting a Schatt & Morgan pearl gunstock folder. Great pocket candy. And for cutting those loose threads, I find the 2 inch long pen blade to be just perfect.

I like Bob's designs, but compared to the others, you will find the Dozier to be a brute. If that is what you want, so be it.

The Mnandi offers exactly what I have wanted in an office knife - framelock, elegant, multi-purpose blade shape, no thumb stud and a great clip that you can actually wear on your pocket without notice. Plus, if you have a Titanium fetish, it is the only one of the trio that will satisfy your jones.

Treat yourself to a Mnandi and order it with a unique scale material - it is just a phone call (and about 8 weeks) away.

I second the Mnandi. Get a pearl scale customization. I know that's what I'd do if I had the $$$. You will let us know what you get, won't you?

I'll cast the first vote for the Whitewing. It's just so damn pretty. Pardon my ignorance, but does Whitewing have anything to do with Bailey Bradshaw?

The cure for ignorance is asking questions. ;) Bailey Bradshaw has everything to do with Whitewing knives. As far as I know, he does most of the work himself; he has someone that does the boring stuff like drill holes and uses some CNC machining.

The only downside to the Whitewing folder are the voices in my head that say, "Spend the extra $$$ and buy the Bailey Bradshaw pearl gents folder. You know you want it. You know you deserve it."

Well, hell yes then! My vote stands for the Whitewing. Not only is it the prettiest (in my opinion), you're getting a knife from one of the most well-spoken makers in the industry. Not that Mr. Reeve or Dozier aren't, not by any stretch...

(cue voice in your head: "Go ahead and scrounge up the extra dough...you deserve it...uh, dsvirsky...you know your real name...I'm just a voice in your head...")

I'd go for the Whitewing too, Dave. I'm a big fan of 3V and I bet that thin blade will cut like crazy.

And it'll be in my hands, tomorrow. :D :D :D

I was just killing time while waiting for confirmation that the blade had a nail nick and not a thumbstud (the text originally said thumb stud opener).

I may buy a Mnandi someday, but I can always order one; they're not going to disappear overnight. On the other hand, Whitewing knives are pretty scarce.

The Dozier was a ringer, although I really wouldn't mind owning one of those, too.

Daniel, it doesn't matter how many $$$ you offer Chris, but he is not making any pearl inlays in any of the CRK folders. They have been able to translate a way to make the pearl stable during the cutting process that they utilize at present to machine the inlays.

I know, because I tried to order one 4 weeks ago. Talked to the man himself about the issues for 15 minutes. So instead, I ordered the one and only buffalo horn inlay they have ever done. (Don't have it yet though).

I agree with you on that count dsvirsky, you will likely always be able to get a Mnandi, but I understand no more Whitewings - so that is probably the better decision.

Since you're not going to be cutting anything of consequence, I'd say "none of the above". Just go to the flea market and look for the sign that says "$5 for any knife on this table". Then just pick one that catches your eye.

Picked up my nick 32 yrs ago in Vietnam. It's based on a character from the B.C. comic strip. Kind of a hairy uncouth sort.

:p :p :p :p

Ah, so it's four tongues of derision for the hairy, uncouth voice of reason. That's ok. Tongues are not necessarily a bad thing. Nor are tables with $XX for any knife here signs. Copped a Blackjack folder and a Western two bladed folding hunter off one just last week.

It's just a tuffer knife, and tuffer looking.the other 2 well you no . If you wanted something of that nature ,the choice
would have to be W/H except no substitute ;)
