I've been carving out a bowie from a piece of heavily rusted and pitted sword steel that I picked up years ago. I goofed big time when I was laying out the pattern and ended up with some pitting on the blade that
I'm really having trouble removing. I could
keep grinding until the pits are gone but I'm afraid by the time I remove them and make the surface even I'll make the blade too thin.
The pits aren't really big, maybe a mm or two deep and less than 3 mm in diameter but
they don't look good.
I've thought of two solutions that might work: Etch a design on the blade that will incorporate the pitting. Weld some sort of filler over the pitting.
Any ideas?
