My wife and I are planning either a trek through the Annapurna Sanctuary or a Sherpa trek through the Everest area for next May. We don't want to climb Everest by any means, nor do we want to pass above 4500 meters or so.

Question is, can anyone advise me on which trip may be more satisfying and where is a good place to start booking such a trip? We would be coming in from Texas, but from the looks of the fares it would be better to get ourselves to LA and book the trip with that as a starting point. We are just ordinary city dwellers in our mid-to late 30s with 8-5 jobs, in reasonably good condition, who want a spiritually and physically challenging trip. Thank you in advance.

Here's an email of the only guides I still know personally. The fellow who runs this outfit (Kami Sherpa) along with his son (Pasang Kazi Sherpa) is one of the best guides in Nepal. He was married to Yangdu's sister, Sanu, until they divorced and is a very good guy + being an excellent guide. He and his son know both areas of interest very well and they keep up on the latest conditions both physical and political. I'd give them a buzz for starters and tell them that Bill Martino directed you to them and this "might" get you some special consideration.

If you want a more spiritual trek go the Everest route and get to Tang Boche monastary. This will take you through Sherpa territory and they are among the friendliest and most helpful folks in the world.

Wish I could go too! Sounds like a great trip. Someday,,,,
Anyway have a great time.:D :D

I forgot to mention -- I think Tang Boche is about 17,000 feet. Might be a little too high for you if there's any problems. Namche Bazaar, the last outpost, is about 15,000.

Thanks Bill. Being that on these excursions they gradually acclamate the trekkers to the altitude, 17,000 may be doable. We'll see. Thanks!

Best trekker I know. Mention my name and ask for him for any details about what you want to do and where to go. He can also advise you on any remaining Maoist problems and when to come. I think there are some Monsoon problems right now.
