My girlfriend and I have been scouring the region for plastic toy balisongs and we have looked EVERYWHERE, only to find toy sets with nunchakus, sais, ninja stars, and a frickin' crossbow. Only one of them had a bali in it and we passed it up. now it's gone

so does anyone have any idea where we might look that I didn't think of (keep in mind i've checked Toys R Us, Kay-Bee, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Ames) or anyplace online that would sell them? I'm considering getting a balicomb for public practice purposes
 
I bought mine from Wal-Mart, it came with plastic sai, nunchaku, sword (or knife), balisong, chinese star, and I think something else. I work at Wal-Mart unloading the trucks, I work tonight so I'll try to get the UPC for you and description. It's only like $3.

Karate for Kids has a website that sells the comb-balis. I have one and it hurts my hand worse than any real balisong I have. The comb is double... uh... "bladed".

I have been looking for a good "toy" balisong for a while. But, I've been thinking about making my own. My father is a CADD engineer and I have a friend who has full-time access to a rapid prototyping machine (those 3-D printers... you CAD it, it will make it real-life). So I could have my dad whip out a model on the computer and then have it all made out of a nylon/fiberglass material that really holds up. But this will take a lot of coordinating with a lot of people. We'll see.

You know, I've been thinking a lot about this whole "bali-as-something-else" idea.

I wonder just how much of a market there would be for a really nice steel bali-comb.

I heard in another post about someone (a teacher) wanting a bali-laser pointer.

I have seen bali-sharpening stones.

it would be something that you couldn't get in trouble for, even in school.

I real live bali comb would be cool.
 
I think that the new microtech should have one of the replacement blades be a comb. Or a spoon would be even cooler... i could heat my heroin in style j/k : )-

If Microtech took the idea of something-else-than-blade on their bali, their lawyers will demand lots more disclaimers like "don't swing it while any soup or gravy is left on the spoon attachment, don't swing it while any noodles left on the fork....."!

I remember seeing a friend whip out a tool that was a pair of pliers with a few other things that he opened just like a balisong.I didn't get to take a closer look at it,but I know all of the other sportsman tools that are similiar act nothing like a balisong.
Something like that would be extremely useful,as long as it was well built,with rounded handle edges.I have some of the cheap copies of the "leatherman" tool,but the handles are thin and hurt when you try to use them to squeeze the pliers shut.If someone made a balisong version,it would be cool...and legal(as long as any blade on it were hard to get open quickly for use).

Well, that's why I bought myself a Leatherman...
Turned out the stupid thing has a "self-tightening" mechanism, which made it impossible to flip with, so I sold it to my dad.
 
Ain't it funny how the Bali-Song is tossed in with those particular weapons?

I tried and yes, it has self tightening mechanism .. Chuck, how do you break in yours?
 
the hell? why do all these mementos of my days of non-singlehood keep coming back to slap me and remind me of my current loneliness?

well anyway, I DID eventually find some plastic balis. They were good...for a day.
 
The balisong candy bar holder (big whoppin' handles), you impale the Snickers bar on the center rod. Flip it open take a bite, and close it back up for a later snack. Then of course one would need the balisong toothbrush and floss and then...

I asked Chuck how he loosened up his Leatherman, and he said solely by manipulating it. I don't think all of them are self tightening.
 
On his site it says that it is a PST or something like that, which most likey doesn't have a self tightening thingy.

further on: a comb bali would be kewl. i'd get one. even though i don't use a comb. sweet just to own. :D

one think i've been thinking about, and perhaps one day even make a reality (100 bucks someone already has it, though, but): knife&fork bali. it would be kinda sweet, you're going to eat dinner, your mother tells you to sit down, you just give her that 'don't mess with me'-look and pull out two closed balis. then she'll feel a little creepy, but when you're done with your single windmill opening, she sees that there's nothing to worry about, and you sit down and eat your dinner.

do you think a dinner-knife bali would be illegal when balis general is illegal here? i hope not a fork?! if i wanna stab someone with a fork, i might just as well use an avarage fork... stupid laws.
 
Just think...

A bali-song chef's knife... or a whole kitchen knife set, for that matter...

Bali-comb, bali-flashlight, bali-car-key (well, that already exists), bali wallet (flips open to show you're broke again after buying another custom), bali shrimp fork, or better yet, a bali-style writing implement. What better way to write in style? Maybe have a double bladed one, with a pencil at one end, and a pen atthe other?
OOOOOO... or a set of bali-style screwdrivers? A really big bali-monkey-wrench? the list goes on and on, and gets weirder by the minute...

Bali-scissors would be relatively easy, once you spring load the scissor blades...

And Leatherman PST's should be easy... loosen the screws, adn put em back in with threadlock, so they can't tighten.

ooh, think of all the space that would take after a while... i mean, a simple car key doesn't use that much space. but add a couple of handles to it, and whoops! lots of space wasted! ;)
