My real problem is that I live in rural Australia. I ordered my first HI khukuri about one and half weeks ago and it hasn't yet arrived (a 16 1/2 inch World War II). That has nothing to do with anything at HI's end. I know Uncle Bill has a deserved reputation for quick delivery. But to give you an example of what postal delivery can be like in rural Australia - even advertised overnight delivery by our postal service is closer to three day delivery if you live in a rural area; and then if customs get involved also, who knows how long delivery can take.

Added to this, do forumites realise how many good reviews of good khukuris there have been in the last couple of weeks by new owners? Can't people write bad reviews more often. Every time I read these good reviews I start dribbling a little bit more in anticipation of my khukuri arriving. Every time I read a good review I tell myself I should have ordered two khukuris, no, make that three. I am starting to become more and more neutotic. I ring my wife every day from work to check if my khukuri has arrived. I'm starting to phone her more than once a day. The worst part is that my job is taking me away from home for a week so I won't be home if my khukuri arrives in the next week. Thank goodness I can take my mobile phone with me to keep in touch - I'll try hard to keep my calls down to only two or three a day. On the bright side, my wife thinks I am ringing to keep in touch with her.

Of course, there are solutions to my problem. (1) no more good reviews of HI khukuris please. (2) Uncle Bill, when are you moving to Australia?

Welcome to the Cantina Glenn!!!!:)

Man I really do feel for you!!!! That has to be terrible, but look on the bright side.
If your work carries you to some wilderness areas or at least access to wilderness areas you will have a lot more opportunities to actually put your khukuris to use.
We have another forumite that's from Oz and he has reported good reviews on skinng out 'Roos and such.
Says a khukuri is an excellent blade for detaching the tail from a 'Roo.:p ;)
Who knows you might even be able to capture, what are they called, a Tasmanian Tiger or Wolf when you get yours,(?) After all they are "Magical." :p :D

Hi Glen
I know how you feel. I just got my first HIK yesterday. You are luck in the sense that you have a lot more open space where you are. I have a small apartment and a small back yard with nothing left to chop. I tested my new Kukri on a maple tree and I don't think I can chop it any more before my parents get angry with me. Have fun chopping up kagaroos or trees or whatever you got down there. :) Hope your Kukri comes soon.

Hi Glenn, Welcome to the Cantina.:):)

I feel for you too. BTW, have you read my review of my new Chitlangi?? :p :D Or my Kobra:p

Sorry, couldn't resist rubbing some salt in there;) :D

Hi Glen,

Welcome to the forums. We will be looking forward to your review soon. There are plenty of pictures on line to help you pass the time....

Being new myself, its nice to see fresh khukuri fans in here. Hang in there. Hopefully your customs and excise boys will give you no problems.

I know what it feels like, having my very first khuk (same model as yours) stuck in Customs for weeks and subsequently denied entry by some over-zealous customs officials. It was to be sent back to Uncle Bill but I'm not holding my breath.

Like abear mentioned, for a city boy like me, finding suitable "test media" for the khukuri's wrath is a problem after you have levelled everything in your backyard. One sapodilla tree, one coconut tree, half a dozen banana trees in my case. I got a jungle hike coming up in June/July and I can hardly wait....

Welcome to the Cantina. Ash, your neighbor down under, has ordered maybe a dozen khukuris and got them all in reasonable time but he's a city boy and I think the mail service is much better than in the outback.

I did have a real life Crocodile Dundee (hunter, prospector, outfitter, etc.) order a 15 inch AK 4 or 5 years back and it took awhile for the knife to get to him -- wherever he was way off in the outback. He called me after he'd had the knife awhile and ordered a couple more khukuris and said the Ak was the best bush knife he'd ever used. Another good review from down under!!!!!!!!

Keep us posted.

The Austrailian govt. hasnt been known for its rave reviews of citizens owning any weapons lately. I wonder if theyre gonna try to take your kitchen knives soon...

We CANNOT stop the string of constant acolades(sp?) for HI and UB--something else would malfunction...then what?? maybe the dust bunnies would get MAD UB?!! That would NOT be cool...Best wishes and luck mate!!
