Well well, we've certainly had an interesting time around here lately: through much intense discussion and furious debate, we've shed a little light on things, and produced large amounts of smoke and heat in the process. Regardless of which side of the fence you find yourself on, I think we can all agree on at least this much.
Well, now, most all the good ideas and arguments on both sides have been given voice, and we're left repeating previous arguments or just hurling barbed words back and forth. It's gotten counterproductive, and just plain tiresome.
I've had some small part in the melee (I was the one who first suggested X-raying as a non-destructive way to find out if tang notches were a widespread thing), and I've had some fun at MD's expense, talking about Milk Bones and such. I was trying to make several points, and sarcasm is a pretty common operating mode for me, but I helped fan the flames a bit, and for that I apologize.
So here's the deal: I'm gonna pledge to cease and desist further comment on this issue for a week; I'll state my position (hopefully in a calm, peaceful, and non-imflammatory way), and leave it at that, for a week. I'd like to encourage everyone else here to do the same...
I figure that, after a week has passed, some additional facts may have surfaced, and we'll all have calmed down a bit. And one week is an achievable goal, it's not like I'm asking you to give up the topic forever...
I realize that not everyone is in a position to make such a pledge, as Mike and Spark, and presumably a few from the Mad Dog camp (if not MD himself), would need to remain "able to speak", so that new information can be made public as it comes to light. But I'd encourage everyone else to make this same pledge. (Yes, I know you still have comments you want to make, so do I, I can think of lots of witty comments to make, but I'm gonna hold my tongue.)
So, here's my pledge:
I hereby publically pledge to refrain from further online comment on the issue of Mad Dog Knives and the testing thereof, for a period of one week, starting now, Sunday evening, November 7th, 1999 and ending Sunday evening, November 14th, 1999.
And, here, I'll say my piece:
I think Mike's testing was fair. I agree that for any of a variety of reasons the ATAK tested may very well have not been representative of Kevin's current production. I'd like to see a newer knife retested, which sounds like it's in the works. Regardless of whether or not there's any obligation, I think it'd be a nice gesture if Mad Dog agreed to replace or at least re-handle the first test knife. I don't think there's been any conspiracy on either side. And I think both Mad Dog and Busse make kicka** knives, which have been optimized for different uses. I'd love to have one of each
There, that about covers it.
Finally, I'd like to ask, I implore you: no bickering on THIS thread, please; post here ONLY to accept this challenge.
Care to you join me?
