Pocket Hobbit Opening

My new Pocket Hobbit arrived in the mail today. I really like the knife a lot. It is big and sturdy and the lock feels very secure. The lock also moves very smoothly. However, the blade does not open or close smoothly. When opening it and closing it feels gritty through most of the travel. If I hold the lock button back the grittiness is gone. Is this normal. It is so stiff that on occasion it will not open all the way when I kinetically open it. I have adjusted the pivot screw with basically no change. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. If s there anything i can do to smoth it up or will it smooth with operation as it breaks in? Thanks

To get it working nice and smooth, you will need to do a little polishing.

Check out this thread for the details of how I did mine :):

You mentioned that you have already adjusted the pivot screw. . . Is it loose enough that the blade can open and close from just the force of gravity (with the lock being held open, of course)? If not, you might want to loosen it a little more. When you find the sweet spot of reduced friction with no blade wiggle, you might want to hold the screw in place with a little Loctite. I'd recommend the medium strength "blue" Loctite. Mine tended to tighten and loosen itself up over time until I locked it in place.

BTW, you can browse the old REKAT forum here:

Good Luck!

i seriously recommend ya refrain from polishing it, bob brothers (the desdigner) says polishing it up changes tolerances and could lead to failure of the rolling lock, and nullify your warranty

i would work the action some, lightly lube, etc, and dont adjust the pivot pins, also can lead to probs, if all fails, send it to REKAT, aint no good if it opens smooth/fails to lock!! bob will fix it i am sure...

just a word to the wise imho, he said this, not me, so beware

If you decide to polish it, you should certainly avoid making any changes to the cutout in the blade that is engaged by the rolling lock. That is not what I am suggesting.

The gritty feeling when you open and close your knife is coming from the part of the blade that slides against the locking mechanism when it is being opened and closed. This part of the blade, IMHO, does not have anything to do with the strength of the locking mechanism and is what I am suggesting can be polished.
