I just recieved a HI Kantana and one side of the hand guard is in pretty rough shape. I worked at it with some Fritz and a heavy cloth for a while and smoothed it out, but there are still some heavy tool marks. The contrast to the other side of the guard ( which is brightly polishished ) is huge.....any suggestions....Thank You

Maybe it's cumbersome to hold in their other hand.

BTW, Bill, you almost always lay the blades with the handle on the left.
I assume this indicates you're a southpaw.

You might try to file, sand or grind it into shape, then use a buffing wheel & buffing compound for final polish.

You could also add 'tool working to match the rough side, if you like that sort of look. You might be able to add dings to it with a small happer or ball-peen hammer. Might add to that worked look.
