What is recommended to polish an edge? Does Flitz or other metal polishes work? A guy at a local retailer said to try a common automotive polish like Blue Magic. DOes this stuff actually work?

I don't know about that but the new ultra-fine sharpmaker rods from Spyderco sure does put a wicked polished edge on a knife.

Yup, the ultra-fine rods do a very nice job and the edge compares well to one done on a strop, which is another suggestion.

You might call Ben Dale at Edgepro and request some 3000 series or 4000 series polishing tape. It has a sticky back and could be applied to any sharpening fixture. It polishes edges like a mirror and it cost about 50 cents a piece.

True story. I was in bed one night in a dark room listening to the radio, knifesturbating. I saw a green ball reflect off of the edge. It was the MOON shining through the window and reflecting from the edge!

Is there a website for Edgepro?

If you can get your hand on a www.handamerican.com strop (no need to go for the whole $45 kit but it is a value) which in singles aren't expensive. These are the best around the leather is fabulous.

If you don't get the kit, at least get some 10,000 grit polish. Rub this in to the leather (I havent been able to make it stay unless I used some spit, some people use oil SUPPOSEDLY. Anyway, the smooth leather with 10,000 grit polish and about 20-30 strokes on each side will polish the edge completely. You could go dremel, but I haven't tried with mine yet I dunno what adaptions to buy LOL

I cannot find these polishing strips that Edgepro supposedly puts out, the company has not e-mailed me back as of a week ago, supposedly they work well.

I've had good luck with the fine/ultrafine stones on my Lansky, although the new 204 ultrafine rods should work well. A good stropping will put a mirror finish on a blade after the ultrafine stone/rod work :)

For polishing metals (including blades, although I haven't worked with it on the edge of a blade), I use what works on my car - Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish, found at most auto parts stores.

If you are trying to clean a really dirty metal surface, Ceramabrite works very well (available at Home Depot).
