Polishing With Rottenstone?

A while back I "discovered" that rottenstone was great for polishing the plastic scales on my SACs. A few minutes of rubbing with a damp paper towel and some of this stuff sprinkled on brought up a shine nearly as good looking as new.

I was just wondering if this stuff might also be usable for polishing out blades. Anyone ever try it? Any possible staining or other negative effects on steel?

Rottenstone is weathered limestone so what is left after the calcium carbonate weathers out is pretty much very fine silica (sand) dust. It should polish steel, but not as fast as alumina dust or chrome oxide powder.
