I'm looking to get 2 of his models soon in a trade. They are: The Polecat & The Companion. I know the Companion is a smaller version of the Scorpion, but I don't know much about the Polecat. Anyone have any info on it? Thanks!

Attila,

Can't help you but if you provide the name of the person you're trading with... Maybe I can beat you to the companion!

The Polecat has a 4.25" blade. It comes in two versions, with sharpened false edge and without. Almost a dagger shape blade but the primary edge has a belly. Index finger notch, integral finger guard on upper and lower side, slightly rounded butt. Old Skyland Cutlery ads in the knife magazines had a line drawing of this knife.

It is a very nice knife and I am sure you will like it.

Sing,

Heh, If I intend on trading the Companion It will go to you.

Damon,

Thanks for the info! Both of these are the single edge models, they will be good for cross state carry. (I can carry double edged in my state) The Polecat sounds SWEET indeed!

the polecat is an extremely well made knife as are all of Al's knives. It comes with a real nice inside the pants kydex sheath.

Thanks for all the input! Do any of you guys have a pic of the Polecat? I've been looking, but came up empty...

An additional bit of trivia: The Polecat was Al Polkowski's answer for a defensive knife. This was what impressed Bob Kasper enough to have Al make his fixed blade designs, though Bob has worked with other knife makers.

As always, if the information provided was incorrect, do correct me.

Dew,

Thanks for the pic! It'll be a nice carry piece...

Haha Jim, that's correct. My bad. I should have asked your permission first.

Anyway, maybe you'd like to share how you get along with the Polecat ?

Dew.

The Polecat I just bought from Dew is incredible. I think all of Al’s knives are terrific.

I have a Sting, a Bodyguard (which is like a small Polecat), a Kasper Companion and now the Polecat.

The Companion and the Polecat are almost the same size; the KC has a little bird beak hook on the handle and has a swell in the handle; the Polecat has a narrower blade profile and is just nimble, sleek and strong.

What else can I say?

Couple of other questions:

1)What's the retail on the Polecat & Companion?

2)Anyone carry 2 Polkowski's? I was wondering how they would work out with strong/weak side carry. I'm mostly ambi, but favor my left hand. I guess I could have either of them set up for reverse grip lefty. I'll have them in a few days & I'm quite anxious since this will be the first of my Polkowski customs...

I received the Polkowski's today. GREAT blades! I'm very happy with them & they carry like a dream. Now I'm on the lookout for a Scorp...

Attila, I have had several Polkowski'd go through my hands. In fact, there is a Forum member who has most of my collection. Now that I have money again I am putting my collection back together.

I found the Companion to be the best carry piece for me. The Polecat was close, but the handle of the Companion allowed me to index the knife quicker. I have found almost all of Al's knives to excellent in reverse grip. I think the Polecat might be the best option for reverse. Based on the shape of the handle, it is very quick to get into the hand in reverse grip.

The Scorpion, this is one BAAAAD blade. It is in my opion the best knife he has going. The double edge, extra length and that bit of recurve to the blade make this one lively blade. Once you get one, you'll want it woth you all of the time.

Al is a very under priced maker. His prices are going up slowly and I know someone who is trying to convince him to raise them more. Get his knives while they are such a great value.

Dirk,

You said it! I really like Al's stuff & I'm very happy with the 2 I have now!!! They are great carry blades & I agree the Polecat is a reverse grip MONSTER! I LOVE the companion as well, really great design & feel. Yeah, I WANT & NEED a Scorp & the new models like the Eightball, CQC & the Warthog look very nice indeed...

The previous post I made was in error. Mea Culpa to everyone. I decided not to erase my original post because it wouldn't undo any misinformation I have done. For the straight facts, I can only recommend to talk to Al Polkowski himself. Thank you.
