Polyurethane (PU) or Ethyl-vinyl acetate (EVA) for midsoles?

I'm looking to buy some new shoes for EDC use which can double for light/day hiking duty. I've narrowed it down to these two so far, and both seem to fit me equally well, though I'll try them on again before purchasing just to make sure:

Merrell Chameleon 3 Ventilator Gore-Tex (EVA midsole)

Lowa Tempest Lo (PU midsole)

I set out to find a pair of shoes with PU midsoles and the Lowa above seems to fit the bill. But the Merrells have a couple features I prefer (I don't have to treat for waterproofing, gusseted tongue to keep stuff from worming in).

So do shoes with PU midsoles really last longer than shoes that use EVA? What is your experience with either or both? I've only ever used shoes/boots with EVA, so I've no experience with PU.

And, if anyone has used either shoe above and would like to comment on it, please feel free :D
