The Boker mini smatchet is a really nice survival knive that can fill many rolls. I've been checking out S&W's new line and the 830 has basically copied the Boker mini smatchet. Upon closer inspection with a magnafier I was impressed with the nice fit and finish. No flaws in the grind and it was extremely sharp on both sides. THe only( flaw) was the very small handle. My wife said it was even small for her hands and her ring size is a 1 on her pinky. I decided to add alittle palm swell with some gold cord. I then simply wrapped the handle from front to back with alittle space so the gold would show through and ended with a tag line through the lanyard hole. If needed the 6' of black and 3' of gold cord could be removed and use in an emergency. It may not be the most beautiful but it's definately fits the hand better. I like the model. Blade quality aside, it takes an edge that does its job. Good point is its handle that fits my hand quite well as if part of my hand. Its hilt is excellent to hold thumb on it in saber grip.

If the tang didn't start to rattle within the handle... I don't carry it any longer, but sometimes grip it, and think of making a replacement with wood by myself. So far too busy to find new, cool edged tools to do so.
