I traded or this sleeveboard whittler yesterday. After cleaning it up I noticed a small gap in between the liners & backsprings on one end. It was written here somewhere to cover the bolters for protection and hit wtih a mallet to tighten everything. After doing this the gap is tightened up ,but I can feel the edges of the pinssticking out past the bolsters. With the knife being 75-80 years old should I leave it alone or is there a fix for this. I am fairly confident in my abilities to make minor repairs if someone could offer advise.

A small protrusion is usually no problem. I suspect you are only feeling the pins because the edges are sharp or rough after peening them.

If you can figure a way to do a mild sand or file on the edges of the pins without scratching the scales that should do.

Thanks Greg,
every time I pick up the knife now I feel them. I may try to sand them down.

You need to peen the protruding pin heads before you file and sand them.
