Possibly the best Spyderco ever

I know, its not new or fancy and does not use the latest materials. The knife in the photo is one of the first ones I ever bought. It is the original Delica, G2 steel, Zytel handle with the integral clip. No new locks, no steel-of-the-week, no reversible clip, and no adjustable pivot. It is very comfortable, cuts well and holds up to everyday use. I think this one was around 25-30 bucks when I got it.

Anybody else still appreciate the basics, or are the newer fancier models what everybody is after?

I've tried a few times now to replace my PE Delica in ATS-55. Each time I came back to it. I think the only thing that could take it's place is a Delica or one of the new Calypsos in ZDP.

I know how you feel about the Delica - my first Spydie many years ago was a CE Delica. A possible replacement for me might be the Salt 1. Larger hole and I like the blade design. :)

Only thing that will ever replace my PE Endura VG-10 is a PE ZDP model.

I have a couple of those also and still love them as much as you do.

I still carry them from time to time even though they have technically been retired.

As a lefty, I appreciate the move from integral clips, only suitable for use by those who are right handed, to clips that could be relocated, or at least removed. I also do find the 50/50 choil to be an improvement over the earlier designs that lack it. So, an FRN Calypso Jr is much more appealing to me than a Delica, especially the older, integral clip variety.

On the other hand, if they came that way, a Calypso Jr in G-2/GIN-1 at a $30 street price would suit my EDC needs just as well, or better, than one in VG-10 at $40 or ZDP-189 at $65.

A few weeks ago I wandered into a pawn shop just to see what all there was to see. In the case was an original Endura, fully serrated with G2... $35. I wish I'd bought it.

I've had both endura and delica. I prefer the endura. It just fits my hand better. I just think it's a little large if it were found by a cop.

I like the old ones better too (they also seem to have better grinding of the lock, but I only see the ones that people held on to).

But G2 WAS the "steel of the week" back then. Otherwise you would have probably had 440a or AUS6.

I have a couple of Delicas that I like alot but prefer the Endura for EDC 'cause it opens easier for me.YMMV.tom.

I agree sak_collector!

I'm a huge Delica fan and I like the shape of the handle on the older Delicas better. I also like the integrated clip.

Left handed folks make up 11% of the population. Make what the majority wants. :)

Plus, the old Delica's had the hole chamfered and it feels better in my opinion.

I hated those damned integral clips. They cost me two or three Delicas because they snagged on things and lost their tension. I MUCH prefer metal clips that I can remove and bend back into shape.

Hi Severtecher,

no plans at this time for an Endura with ZDP. The Cay jr is out and the ZDP Delica is scheduled for January '06.

Future models will depend on the reactions to the models offered.

SE Endura in VG10 with SS handles! Every day it is getting a little closer to my pocket.

My money is already set aside for it, just waiting for the release.
