I still really want to make a knife!

Last week my daughter was in an accident and totalled the truck. Thank God all 3 children walked away with very few bumps and scratches.

However, now we are in financial straights. So, no new toys or supplies.

I went hunting around the property and found some box steel - about 1/8" thick. Cool I thought "I can practice filing and things with this."

I used a cut-off tool and got a piece 2"x10". However, it bowed :(.

Any ideas where I can get some scrap to play with?

go by some local machine shops, ask for o1 or 1095 scrap. tell them what you want it for, maybe bring a box of donuts or a sixer.

Glad to here everyone was not hurt seriously..
If you go to the local scrap metal yard you will find a absolute treasure in springs and old saw blades that will work great for you.You could even get them to cut to length or and shape for next to nothing..

Chuck, The insurance company took the whole thing. New tires and all .

But the junk yard might be a plan. I'll have to see if I can find a scrap metal kinda place.

I did call a welding/fabrication place, but they didn't have anything!? I have another place to try today.

If I can scrounge up some old saw blades will they have to be annealed first?
