I was going to make a snappy comment on "TK" magazine giving us breaking news again (see last issues letting the "waved" cat out of the bag), until I looked close at the knives in the picture.

They belong to one of our suspects.

Tactical Knives on the cutting edge as always (place sarcastic face here).

I heard that in the next issue they are gonna introduce a new gadget for knives, it's a clip that is mounted on the handle of a knife and you can clip the knife on your pants pocket. The knife sits inside your pocket and only the clip is visible !!!

Wow, how do they get the information on these hot new developments ??

Donald

PS- Apparently the people at Tactical Knives werent bothered by the Y2K computer problem, they're still dealing with Y1K !!!

John,
You sure have my curiosity. Didn't see the magazine. Which pre-tacs did they show?

The knives don't belong to me unfortunately! Therefore you can guess who owns them!

Guys this photo doesn't even come close to showing the beauty of these knives! Unfortunately these photos are printed in black and white, rather than color and the magazine doesn't do them justice.

Possibly at Blade someone will have a color camera, and may be interested in the pre-tacs I'll bring.

I had the privilege of spending about an hour and a half with Jim Weyer at last November's New York Custom Knife Show. Ernie asked me if I'd mind having my pre-tacs photographed. It was a photography and lighting seminar from a grand master. I haven't seen the photographs but imagine them to be beautiful. But black and white...no way that can capture the essence of the pre-tacs. The color of the anodized titanium glows from inside. They actually have a magical quality to them. Cool to be in Tactical Knives but black and white....damn.

Sorry for the delay guys, i was in a class all day.

The three Pre-Tacs are Jackstraws. Yes, the pictures are Black & White . . . unfortunately. Like has been said, there is not way a B&W photo can show them as they should be.

Matter of fact, why the Hell is that entire customs section done in B&W?! That's silly as hell!

I was there at the show with Jackstraw that day. Blak and White shots would cut it for Ernies tactical stuff but the PreTactical knives are a different matter altogether. Lots of annodized and natural surfaces. They really deserve color shots.

If you go back to 1997, you might note Tactical Knives covered the "wave" first. At that time we were asked not to discuss how the hook worked and we didn't. The rules changed some time later and now it is old hat to all you Emerson buffs. There wasn't much point in trying to rush the Commander article so I actually carried the knife for several months in the field. Like the title of the article said "A Secret No More"

Mr. Dick, good to see you.

Yes, TK did basically introduce the ES1-M, ES1-C and the Rhino to the public. I still have the magazine. I also still have the Spring '96 issue that did a great piece on Ernie and his knives and is one of the only pictures of a CQC6 & 7 with Black Micarta checked scales.

Might I also complement you on a great piece in the Summer '95 issue that caused me to ravenously collect older Elishewitz Omega folders.

I personally was a little taken aback by your magazine "letting the Secret out" about the Commander and more importantly, "The Wave". They have both been public knowledge since late '97.

I think people thought it was like having a article on the CRK Sabenza and proclaiming it as a secret revealed.

Perhaps a better "Revelation" might have been a piece on all the waved models. While a lot of press has hit the SARK and little hit the NASA, I don't think I've seen article one in any magazine on the SOCFK.

John,

I used to think that we needed to promote High Speed Tools. I think the Wave Opening is so radically different that we need to let it just fade.

By that I mean, popularity killed the Switchblade. I would like to keep my Wavers for a long time to come. Great for Self-defense.

I used to like to see the Blade Arts promoted too, I am beginning to feel the same way about them. Let the hardcore Edged Weapons Instructors go back to being somewhat obscure.

I'm not ashamed of any of these things, I just don't like Bull's Eyes. I am 100% for Self-defense, any knife or firearm and other hand weapons, and the Arts and Skills to make their use a success...but it is time for everything to settle down now.

Don, I'm with you on the 'bullseye' factor. It's sad that martial training whether it be with knives or guns or what not can't be more embraced by society as a whole. A more realistic view and less scapegoating as to the cause of violence would be nice. The people in denial would rather everybody be more vulnerable just to propagate their view that weapons of self-defense just aren't necessary

.

Nearby in Berkeley, I think the legal blade length for carry is 2 and a half inches ... 3 at the most.

It is interesting to note that The Boy Scouts of America used to teach Quarterstaff Fighting, believe it or not. It used to be in BSA Manuals. Click Here

Have they given up on Archery too? I mean, after all, it is a Martial Art as well.

I wish they would get into Filipino Kali, Escrima and Arnis, the NRA's Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program along with a Marksmanship Program, JuJutsu and such things. All things that young people should know.

John, I know...sad state of affairs.

Don - how can that be quarterstaff fighting?? They don't show flourishes, or a proper groin strike... oh, wait - it's the Boy Scouts. Making "Little John's" instead of "Darth Maul's" Speaking of that, I just saw E1 again - I just love rewinding Ray Parks parts...
