Problem with a Grohmann knife (its bent)

I have a Grohmann blade that belongs to a friend, this model :

It has been badly damaged, there is rust, edge and spine impaction, as well as evidence of power grinding equipment on the primary bevels. All of this I can fix with no problems. However there is also a large bend in the blade that I assume is not part of the design.

The bend is throughout the main body of the blade and puts the tip about 1.5 cm off line with the rest of the knife. My concern is the possibility of breakage if I try to straighten the blade.

Should I be able to straighten the knife or would the scales need to come off and the blade heated to prevent fracture?

Cliff, the knife is designed the way it is. It has not been bent! It is designed to be upswept to aid in skinning. As for the rust and stuff, try steel wool, and if it dosen't get the finish you want you can start with sand paper and work your wat through the grits. You can check out www.covecutlery.com to see other grohmak knives, and see that they are not bent.

I realize the upsweep is intentional, but it also significantly bent to the right (holding it point out with the edge down).

If the knife is bent to the right, it might be stressed, and would possible break if you try and streighten it. If you can find out the hardness, it might not break if it is not too hard.
