Hello all, This is my first time using this forum and hope someone can tell me what is going on with ny blade, here go's New knife made out of ATS-34, Water bufflo horn handle, Brass hardware ETC.I also made a new leather sheath and dyed it Fiebing's leather dye and finished with a water based leather finish.Put the new knife in it after drying and about two hours later the blade looked like it had rust on it. The marks would not rub off, I had to buff the blade again. Can anyone tell what happened so I don't do it again.

tduncan, First of all, welcome to the Blade Forums. I make most of my knives out of ATS34 and I love it. I've had the problem you decribed before with a sheath that was not totally dry. It felt dry but it takes leather a long time to dry.. Also the higher your polish is the less surface area there is for water to hold. Keep in mind what "stainless" is, it will "stain less than non stainless". Stainless steel will rust, it just won't (usually) pit rust. Try drying out your sheaths longer, or if you must put the knife in to hold the wet form or whatever, wrap it in clear kitchen cling wrap. Hope this helped some. Mark Hazen

Thanks, I'll try putting in in again and see what happens, It's been almost a week so it should be dry now.
