I have a native since they first came into being. A great little knife ,but the edge chipped while skinning out a hardwood tree branch ,is this common ?
The blade is 440V.
While not really bad ,it is noticable to me>
I did re-sharpen when neccessary ,but it is still there>
Any suggestions or advice appreciated>
thanks,regards,rick.

A bit of help, for what it is worth,

440V from what I have read is more brittle than other cutlery steels. I understand that it holds a great edge for a long time, but it is not as tough as other steels. So it may not be surprising that it chipped out when working on hardwood like that.

If I understand you correctly, your edge still has some chips in it. I'd recommend you keep sharpenign that knife until the chips are gone (that may take a while with the 440V) and use the knife for less rough chores. I imagine for EDC type slicing chores your Native wil hold an edge for a LOOOOOOONG time before needing any serious touch-up or re-sharpening.

I hope this helps.

It's only a small chip ,but i know it's there
Sharpening did help ,but it may come out completly in another sharpening or 2.
Maybe i'm due for a Manix! lol.
thanks again,regards,Rick in Nfld. Canada.
