problem with my new leatherman

I just bought a new leather supertool 200 and the lock release button on both sides are loose and wiggle a lot. They dont seem firm and sturdy. They sort of rattle. Is this normal? Also, the opening of most the blades is pretty tough, is there a way to loosen this up or will they just work in over time?

Mine was the same way. Never seemed to effect the function, nor did it get worse. I'd use it for a while and see, then if you're not happy, just send it back to Leatherman. Their customer service and warranty department is one of the best in the industry.

Regards,
Clay

I have 4 NIB ST 200s in my desk. I checked all of them and the lock handles were all a little loose and rattly. IIRC, several months ago one of my staff traded a broken ST for a new ST 200 and commented on the loose lock handle. Since then he's used it heavily and likes it.

The blades will loosen up with time and working with them, but some of them may not get much work. Better than waiting would be to flush out whatever gunk they shipped with -- blast them with WD-40 -- and relubricate with the grease of your choice! :D I had a Schrade Tough Tool that shipped with what looked like stale molasses, but once I cleaned it up was absolutely slick, really great. The Leatherman tools tend to be pretty tight anyway, but I don't mind tight. You should lube them yourself, though.
