I am looking for any info on any production knives that have the "Carson Flipper" or a similar design, besides the obvious CRKTs.

The TiLite does not flip, I have one. When the knife is closed barely 1/8" extends out the back of the handle and it's not enough leverage to flip with.

They flip with the Speedsafe but Kershaw Onions all have a flipper.

Not too many other than those though.

The S&W HRT with the magnesium scales has a double flipper and a 440C blade. It is remarkable for the money. It's also a Darrel Ralph design.:)

Oh, never mind. I see that what I thought was a 'flipper' is on the spine of the blade. Silly clothes catcher...and I was thinking of buying one...

Yep, it's definitely not a flipper.

Because of the geometry of the blade it almost closes into the handle off center. Which leaves very little of the one wing sticking out and the entire opposite (spine) wing sticking out.

My biggest complaint about the knife is what you said - silly clothes catcher. If you're not careful pulling it from your pocket it will open partially. Of course Emerson has developed a great following by doing this same thing so some people would like that "feature".

Flippers are a strange animal.. the first rear flipper that I believe ever hit the scene was Laci Szabo's folding UUK...a custom knife..he never patented it or trademarked it because everyone thought it dumb..so Laci let it slide..too bad.hmmm now years later it's the rage with other knives.
As for "flippers" off the front side,,well that's a delicate issue..
Several of these custom & production guys were adamant that waves and KinOps were stupid ideas..but they now market "flippers"..Well if it rides tip up in your pocket..I guess you better go talk to Ernie..cause if it Flips open by your pocket, by engagement with your clothing its a wave..by any other name..its still a WAVE..
and Wave patent is Ernies..
If it rides Tip down and the flipper opens AFTER it's out of your pocket by rubbing or hitting another object..its a Kinetic Opener by any other name..
Guess you can stop in and talk to me..
Matter of fact I saw the ad that called the front side of a dual flipper an almost instantaneous deployment device..it encounters something and "bam" its open..
Sounds like my KinOp to me..

Thats the thing these days..
Ideas once laughed at turn out years later to be OK..

I realize its a bit off topic,,but if you want flippers check out those of us who worked out the ideas.

be safe

I loved the crap out of my CRKT m-16 with flipper. All that fliping has worn out the liner-lock though. It no longer locks up with a crap, I can close it when the lock fully engage with only a bit of pressure.

Actually the first "flpper" I remember was from a custom maker named Paul Fox, that was back in the 70's

I was doing Flippers in the mid '80 and they just never caught on. I reintroduced them in the mid '90s and they caught on.
They were being used long before that, but then, so was the liner lock. Go figure.
Seems the knife industry is doing well with them, and that's a good thing.
