Does anyone know about protective coatings for alloy steel blades like A-2 or 5160? Commercial makers use teflon or other coatings on stainless. I've heard that teflon is porous and will not keep out water so alloy steels might rust underneath. Can any of these coatings be applied in the home shop?

It's not that the Teflon is pourous; it's that the coating ends at the edge of the blade, so water can get under it, there.
