I'm on the way to Chesapeake Knife and Tool this morning, where I have an appointment with the buyer. I'm going to be showing him the two remaining Puukkos I have, along with pricing and promotional materials. We'll see if they are interested in offering them in-store. Also, do you guys who bought the puukkos have any initial impressions so far (such as on edge retention)?

I bought one of the "hunter" models in the UHC steel. It is a no-frills knife, appearance-wise. It is a very lightweight, ergonomic design.
"Out of the box" I put it to work cutting up some cardboard cartons.
I have been a knife-hobbyist ever since my early teens (and that's been a while). I have never seen a knife which cuts as well or holds it's edge like this one. Period.

I would second Mike's observation. I also used mine in the kitchen the last few days and it really does an excellent job in cutting and slicing things up for the stewpot. I have yet to resharpen it.

That's great to hear - that the UHC does what it's advertised to do. You know, nobody ever bought the wootz damascus blade - I guess the price was too high (it was for me, but I couldn't resist!). Oh well, I guess, sniff sniff sniff, that it will just have to stay in my collection!

FYI: I took the puukkos to a leading knife retailer, and he confirmed my suspicions that the price is just too high (at full retail). I think these babies will stay in the realm of the collector knife. Yeah, they are great to use - ergodynamic and sharp-staying, but for general marketing, I don't think they'll fly.

What do you think of the prices you paid and the value you received?

As for pricing and value, at this point, I would have to say that the pricing was good compared to other website merchants I checked into. As for value, I would have to say that so far, this puukko has performed to expectations. To be fair, I will wait until hunting season(November this year) is over before rendering final judgement on its value.

Craig,

I think the Puukko I got (the Carpenter) is a GREAT knife. It's extremely light weight, has a handle that fits my hand perfectly and is still shaving sharp after a couple weeks of general utility use.

As far as value for money goes. I think it's worth every penny I paid for it. I've been in the market for a good, fixed blade utility knife for a while and this Puukko fits the bill. I carry it everywhere and imagine I will for a long, long time.

That's the kind of reaction that should make Haimo proud! I do hope I can carry more of these from time to time, as the benefit to the user makes it worth the trouble. What I'd love to do is get Roselli to sell me some of their UHC for khukuri use.
