Hey all,

When Miltec sent me a sample they sent a small tube of Miltec Greese along with the Oil. I wondered if this would be good for lubing a knife. I just got done washing my Scorpius with hot water and dish soap and it's all dry and blown out with air.

I want to oil it but I get tired of the oil seeping out for days. Does this happen to everyone....and do you just deal with it?

I put like one or two drops of Miltec at the pivot and maybe one drop where the lockback is.

Thanks,

Yeah I have the same thing happen when I oil my knives. I find that working the action around a bit will help to work out any excess oil a bit faster. Also as has been recommended elsewhere on these forums heating the pivot pin a bit and letting it cool helps with Militec. It allows more of the oil in and also makes it even more slick.

As for the grease I doubt that would be much good unles you took the knife apart completely and put a small amount right where you wanted it. It would be impossible to get the grease into the proper places while the knife is still together. Also I bet it would attract dust and dirt much worse than the oil.

I deal with it. Most of the time if Im going to oil a knife of mine I will od it at night before I crash , I oil the blade and the action , working the action to help work it in like EricD said. Following morning before work or whatever , I wipe the blade clean and any axcess that has dripped out. No point in over oiling it , youll get the hang of how much to use after a few times.

I'd say, yes and know. The question is: what are your preferences?

Swiftness and ease of deployment: Oil
Smoothness in the long run: Grease

However, there are some hints (as always :) ). If the knife features some kind of washings (i.e. bronz), the benefit of grease (metal surface) is obvious. On the other hand (as involving most of the Spydies) if there is no washers, I'd prefer the sole usage of oil. My advice: Use the grease in your fishing reels :) (That is if you are a fishin' man like I am :) )

If you're using Militec make sure to heat up the pivot when you apply it. See their website for details. This greatly improves the bonding action of the Militec to the metal. I just let the knife sit for a couple days so the oil works it way out. It gives me a chance to carry something different if my EDC is in the shop for a lube job. :)

The balisong collector has a nice tutuorial for using militec at its best here: http://www.balisongcollector.com/militec1.html

I first wash and dry with water if needed, then I use a zippo, get the joint steel hot to the touch, drop militec on and work the joint, then heat it again, work it again, and let it sit. Later i borrow my friend's canned air and clean out the joint. Keeps my bali's and my AFCK smooth as hell.

Oddly my 722 is perfectly smooth and I haven't done anything to it in a while... I think I militeched it (cold) when I first got it, so that might be it.
