Question for custom makers re their older knives

As a "new guy," I have just started to acquire an interesting piece or two, including "previously-owned" knives made by from custom makers. Since these often do not come with original packaging or paperwork and may "show" a little of their age (me too), I am wondering what sort of services are typically available from custom makers for their older knives that would help me get the knives as close to their original configuration or condition as possible.

For example, can one usually get replacements for the original packaging (box, pouch, tube, whatever)? Is it possible to get copies of original paperwork that might have been created during the making of the knife that would indicate when it was made, for whom, and with what materials, even just the piece that may have come with the knife (i.e., like the certificates I see accompanying Chris Reeve knives)?

And are "tune-ups" typically available and what would they typically cost?

For example, I bought a Pat Crawford folder http://www.picturetrail.com/IamMatt that had no packaging or paperwork, and I would like to get as much info on it as possible and get a pouch for it; also it is not in "as-new" condition, and I would like to get is fluffed and buffed or whatever, as well as having any possible blade play tightened up. Is this usually easily done?

I realize that each maker is different, but if the level of involvement and service shown by the makers on Bladeforums is any example, I am sure I will be pleased.

Thanks.

Matt

Your best bet would be to contact Pat himself and ask him these questions. The best people to give you the information that you seek are the makers of the knives that you need refurbished.
