Question for EDC owners

I have a couple questions actually. One for the owners and one for Stomper.

I'm looking for an all around edc blade. Use would include daily tasks like cardboard and strapping but also food prep and wood work. I want an edc main blade that I just add a dedicated blade to. Kitchen I'd add a chef's knife to the edc 'paring' knife. Winter woods I'd add a hatchet, summer a machete etc.

First, how is the handle configuration in use? I usually shy away from finger grooves and ultimately it's going to come down to my hand specifically but do you find they get in the way at all? The reason I'm considering them is that I want to be able to use the knife as a weapon in a pinch and fingers grooves like this seem to lend themselves well at stabbing. For a slasher most anything would work it seems.

Second, for Stomper, what's the heigth difference between the EDC and the Riverwoods companion? Could you do an EDC handle with a Riverwood blade in 3/32 O1?

Hi Shotgun -

From your questions, perhaps you would love something like the Scandi Passaround knife -

Here is my review of that blade - it was a real sweetie, I love it.

I ordered a Riverwoods Companion, and I will likely order a Scandi like the passaround knife, since I loved using it so much.

I know Stomper has the pattern to make either knife, and he LOVES to modify designs for his customers -

In fact - sketch out your dream blade and email it to Stomper or post it here - He'll fix you up.

best regards -

Both the EDC and Riverwoods are 1" tall. A Riverwoods with an EDC handle in 3/32" is no problem, or as mqqn said, design your own, I would love to make it.

I didn't even realize I had drawn up something similar last year. LOL What to do you think? Not in a position to order right now though. :( Thinking Christmas-tax return time.

cardboard and other paper products dull knife edges quickly.

not suggesting that a good knife can't take it, but i wouldn't want to be constantly sharpening a nice knife. for those kinds of jobs i use a utility knife and just replace blades as needed.

but then i've worked in shops where a large part of the work was using utility knives and x-actos to cut paper and foamcore all day. blades were provided.

don't get me wrong, i don't have a problem with tools that show signs of use.
i guess it depends on just how much cardboard you're cutting up.

the drawing looks like it would make for a nice knife.
