Paul, was wondering if i could ask you some questions on heattreating ats-34, i like to do my own heattreat as i like to hands on type thing,so my qustions are -
1 - what should the rockwell be when first taken out of the furnace?
the reason i ask is that i got between 59-61rc when i took my blade out. after an hour at 400degF for stress relieving and after sub-zero quench it seems not to have gained much for the final tempering..i am used to working with D-2 and have gotten that down to where i am getting 58-59rc consistantly...but the ats-34 seems a little different
to work with to get to the required 60rc sweet spot
2 - i use a hydrogen furnace at a temp of 1950-1975deg.F for 45 min. , i use liquid nitrogen so how long should i soak the blade for and about how much should i gain on the rockwell?
3 - can you give my some sort of formula to go by for my to gain
more confidence on my heattreating?
thank you,
