Question on a Gill Hibben knife

I was at the Wolverine Knife show in Novi, Mich. yesterday and ran across an older knife made by Gill Hibben. It was a stag handled straight knife called the Alaskan. I immediately fell in love with the knife but not its selling price,$420.00. Does anyone know if this is a good selling price or can the knife be found for a little bit less?

j,
I am not familiar with that particular model, but the selling price does not sound that far out of line. I don't think that there is a lot of his work out there of that style.
A lot depends on if you're looking at if for a using knife, or something to add to a collection. His fantasy knives and fighters seem to be more collectible.

J,

Madpoet is correct. The price is probably in line.

The thing with Hibbens is the mark of where the knife was made.

Manti, Utah
Alaska
Silver Dollar City
Louisville.
There is also the very rare Ben-Hibben mark. About 80 of these were made.

Louisville mark has been for the last 10 years or so. Those are not as sought after by the collectors as the Manti, Silver Dollar City, Ben-Hibben or Alaska marks.

Gil is one of the masters for large knives.

Hope this helps

It is easier to get things done with a kind word and a knife, than with a kind word alone!
