I played phone tag today with the nice folks over at Buck Knives, unfortunately we are still playing. :( What I need to know is, what is the cost to up-grade from the standard blade on a 110 to BG-42? And what is the approximate turnaround time on doing this? I'm going to be visiting my grandparents next month and I would like to surprise my grandfather with a shinny new BG-42 110. Any help is greatly appreciated!

BG-42 is $35. Turn around time varies depending on work load, but from all accounts, Buck is pretty quick. Send Joe Houser an email if you can't get ahold of him by phone, he's a good guy and will go out of his way to help you (they all are at Buck though).

It's a great gift idea.

If I recall correctly, others here have posted the upgrade cost to be $35 which in my opinion, is a deal... Turnaround time is probably a couple weeks. I would enclose a note saying what, why and when as the people at Buck take a certain amouint of pride in making things happen for their customers. I'm sure if they can get it back to you quicker, they will. Drop an email to Joe Houser, moderator of this forum and Director of Consumer Relations. He may be able to expedite things for you...

Yeah I think so too! The last time I was in town visiting my family, my grandfather was eyeing my Spyderco Native. I almost gave it to him, but I just don't see him with that type of knife. Nothing against Spyderco, I own more than a few of them, but I think for him, you just can't beat the classy looks and styling of a 110. Plus he's more of a belt sheath kinda guy anyway. By the way, thanks for the info!

The 110 Alaska Guide series from Cabela's is another option if you can't wait for a blade replacement. It's a good buy for $60 with S30V steel, rosewood scales & a nice leather sheath.

What you must not realize, is that anytime you post to a thread, it comes to the top, as well as sends an alert to email, if you are subscribed to that thread.

Don't feel so special as to think that someone is stalking you....... NOT...

It's just a case of more trolling. There's not much other reason to bring up a five year old thread. I see you've already been warned, but I hope you keep it up. Banning is in your future that way.
