i've just recently gotten back into collecting knives..the last time i was into it was about 15 years ago.
now i am getting back into it again and i am looking for information on the best brands (i am used to buck and schrade myself) and what the difference betwen the different metals are, etc.
i would be appreciative for any help.

Bill, I think you should collect custom knives. Start with a nice Bruce Bump Damascus Knife. Bruce

Bill,

Now's your chance. Run, don't look back. Turn off your computer before it's too late. And whatever you do don't and I repeat DON'T go to the Exchange forum. Knife addiction is not a pretty sight! Look at me, slobbering, drooling, totally obssessed, empty bank account.....

Start off and do a search in this forum for "steel chart" and or "steel" You should get about 4 million posts to look through, you'll find enough to either give you a good understanding of different steels and terms or it could get you well on your way to being a metallurgist

Second try a search on "6al4v" or "Titanium". Its the new deal in bolsters and liners for folders.
Also try one on talonite and stelite. Two alternatives to steel for blade material.
Another site to check out is www.agrussel.com I think they have a knife dictionary where you can find short descriptions A-Z to help you understand whats going on.
Learn as much as you can if you want to build a collection. It will help you figure out which knives are good buys and how to judge the potetial quality of a knife. It always depends on how well its made, but you still have to start out with good materials.
Have fun.

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer... but I've got the sharpest knife in the room.
