I`ve been putting out quite a few new designs lately, but apparently none of them are too appealing. So, let`s here what you guys would like to see me make.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your designs John, I think it's more likely just a lack of money for most of us !:(

Hi Stomper -

I agree with pit.

For me, I have a certain amount that I can get away with spending, and that is that.

There are a few people here that buy quite a few of your knives, but we are a small group of people.

What needs to happen is to have your market expanded, and the best way to have that happen is to make it so people can check out your knifes in person.

I know that once I had my first JK in hand, I was so impressed that I could not wait to get the next one! (Remember the Keychain Companion?)

I know it is spendy to go to shows, but perhaps you should go to the shows like Blade etc to get your work more exposure than this forum can provide.

I will continue to do my part, taking pictures and posting reviews of the knives I purchase from you.

I still have to get a couple of reviews posted on other sites too.....

Your product line is evolving into a very nice offering, and I like the new fire kits, loved the scandi, will probably have to have a kitchen knife, have a Riverwoods Companion ordered and who knows from there lol....

Maybe more of the passarounds, but have someone help you manage them - someone assigned to keep the thread for a particular knife alive and keep track of who has the knife - then you could have multiple passaround blades out there and just have a small email group of the people who are "in charge" of each passaround. That is just one idea to help get your work more exposure.

I would be more than willing to take on a passaround or two for you if you chose to do something like that.

best regards -

mqqn

Maybe making a 1/4" stock beast and sending it to Noss of Knifetests.com would give you some extra publicity, we all know your knives are up to it !

How about an Ulu John ?

I agree with the knifetests.com idea.
Maybe also a "Refer a friend" type deal. Bring a new order/friend to John and get XX% off your next order or something similar.

I like this idea! I am planning on doing some semi local gun shows this fall too.

Facebook Fan Page might help too...but I'm not sure how you make those.

I agree with mqqn on going to shows, and Pit's idea of knifetests.com (although it's been discussed and shot down already) really isn't bad for publicity, and similarly you could offer one up to CutleryLover or Nutnfancy on YouTube, although I don't know how that would go over. One other thought I had is that you could try offering a knife to someone famous in certain circles. For instance--what if you offered a knife to Les Stroud of Survivorman fame? Sure, he doesn't do the show anymore, but that's publicity if he accepts it and uses it. Or how about to some of those other survival guys who have or are getting shows?

By the way, John, I am trying to push a customer in England your way for a lot of blades. I don't know if he'll go for it because he's wanting D2, but he said 1095 and O1 "would work" so we'll see how that goes :P

They're easy. I can set one up if John would like?

I will help you run some passarounds too. Keep the flow going and call out "where is it NOW?!"

I agree with pitbull and mqqn, John! I am limited to how much money I can spend on blades and justify buying them! It is hard for me to see so many knives, because I like them all! I don't think I have ever met a blade that I didn't like, just some more than others! I think you really do need to try and make more local and semi local shows to try and keep the work flow going. Be sure to look into the Badger Knive Show up in Janesville, WI! That isn't too far to go for you! I think it is in Sept. or Oct., somewhere around there! Later!

I think your designs are great but at the time money is very tight here. I'll bounce back with a new job and money to buy more JKs but until then I have to trade to get them.

It seems to me that money is the biggest issue, believe me, I know about that! Between Connie getting hours cut, and insurance deductible going sky high, I know the feeling. I just can`t go any lower on prices, I`m not making a lot on them now. I think reviews in other places besides just here might help, along with giving a 10% discount on their next order to whoever gets someone to buy one of my knives. Visibility sell knives, I`ve found that out already, so let`s get some reviews out there! I agree on the passarounds, but just posting the reviews here does not do much except for the regulars that post here, no one else sees it. There seems to be more reviews on W&SS so maybe post them there.

If anyone is a member of other forums (as long as they allow it) I would suspect that reviews on those forums would be good--anybody on ZombieSquad, for instance? I'm there, but I've already got John's website linked in my signature and they know I make sheaths for him, so I can't really advertise any more than that :P

I plan on doing reviews on the next one coming my way on all the sites I hit.

If anyone does post on other sites please let me know what sites they are.

KnifeDogs, Ramanon, British Blades, Knifemaker Forums, Jerzee Devil and ZombieSquad are the places I spend my time outside of BF (well, those and Leatherworker.net, but that's not really knife related unless you start making round knives).

Maybe we could get a sticky at the top for sites we post reviews so all can check em out?
:)

I think most of your designs are great. I am loving the pack knife and the bushcraft kit. Unfortunately my funds are taxed by paying for therapies that insurance won't cover for my son. I agree with the others about getting to knife shows and guns shows just to get your product out there. I know that there is a pretty decent knife show in St. Louis every year that seems to draw a good crowd.
