Questions About Cold Steel Hawks

Considering the prices of Cold Steel's Tomahawk Line and fun some of the members have mod'ing them. I was wondering how if somebody could give me the pros and cons to the trail and rifleman's hawk. How do they compare?

Thanks for the input and satire. :D

The Rifleman's hawk is heavier than the Trail hawk but for me it throws easier. The TH is a nice carrying hawk. I throw it pretty well but find I have to be a little easier on the release. I have been impressed with them both for durability and holding an edge. Not to mention the price.

I use mine for Zombies. I rarely throw mine as they usually attack in packs and it makes no sense to throw away my primary weapon. So I really can't speak to that part of your question. I have tried pairing it with various combinations, including a Buck 110, a SAK huntsman and a Gerber Gator combo.

As you other Zombie hunters know, you must strike with a finishing blow, otherwise the hacked off body part will come after you and you are just increasing the size f the pack.

The trail hawk is my weapon of choice and I wield it in my strong hand. I find that the hammer poll is very efficient for a follow-up back handed blow, after the fore handed slicing blow with the cutting edge. This finishes most any Zombie. This will not work with a rifleman's hawk. Please trust me on this.

I gave up on all of the wilderness style blades for my weak hand. The Buck 110, my fixed blade rough duty knife and SAK just do not have enough heft to get the terminal velocity necessary to finish off the Zombies. I carry these as tertiary weapons and use them for various Zombie related tasks. They are a great set of tools for post-battle autopsies.

My secondary weapon is a Cold Steel khukuri.

Finally, please do not make the mistake that our former colleague Zombie Hacker made. Shooting them, even with a silver bullet, only makes them stronger. He went after a pack with a .45 Colt Army Special. I never saw a pack grow so fierce so fast. ZH was a good companion and a brave fighter. We will miss him, one and all.
