I'm sure this has been asked on here before, but with the number of times the Moran name comes up, I couldn't check all the messages that came up with the term. Anyway, the question is: How far into the handle does the tang of the Spyderco Moran extend? And is it squared off, or somehow contoured to the grip?

And, on a related note, Sal mentioned in another thread that the Starmate was being made for less expense than the Terzuola fixed blade, or something to that effect. Did I miss something? Is Spyderco producing a collaboration with Terzuola in a fixed blade??!

OD - The tang goes in about 3/4ths of the way and is notched. Have NEVER had one come off. The FRN is injected around the tang.

Sorry for the confusion. No we are not making a Terzuola FB. But there is one being produced by another manufacturer. I was just making the comparison to demonstrate that Spydeco really gives you a lot of value for your dollar when you measure and compare labor & materials with the competition.

Thank, Sal. I was just wondering, as I sat here playing with my FB01, the original style with the mirror blade. I couldn't imagine the grip coming off. The only thing I was wondering about was where the weak link was; i.e., if for some insane reason, I was prying with it, would the tang be supported by my hand such that the weak link is actually the blade (well, or my hand

Thanks again.

ps - No doubt that Spydies are a lot of knife for the dollar. That must be the reason they keep taking up more and more of my sock drawer

I know what you mean, OD. I tried putting the socks in the Spydie boxes but...

Brian,

You mean you still have socks to put away? Heck, with what I've spent in the last year on knives, coupled with being unable to knit a hole to save my butt...I've taken to wearing my footwear sans socks. That way my drawers aren't overcrowded! <hehehehehe>
