Hi Steve.

I have some old Parker Cutlery folders marked Japan Surgical Steel. Do you know what kind of steel this is? If you don't know, to what sub forum should I direct this question?

I hope that your health continues to improve.

Regards,
Fred

I have some of those also and some Parker/Frost models I've owned for a long time. I always thought the blades were made of a typical AUS steel. Probably AUS 4 or 6 Fred. Can't say for sure though since they were only marked as you noted. Whatever the steel, they seem to be on par with the Case and Victorinox knives I've used so its not bad at all. I've managed to get some decent edges and been happy with the edge keeping on the ones I've had for a good long while. They are not very hard but then that adds to ease of sharpening. I had one Rockwell tested years ago and it came back at 56 RC. Which as I recall is about what you'd expect in a production run for AUS4 or 6 steel.

Thanks Steve. I haven't used mine much, but they sure are pretty. One is an Eagle Brand with a solid stainless body and a wide flat grind blade.

BTW, just received my BM minigriptilian back from Gary with the new Wilkins grips installed. Feels like a totally different knife. :D The lowrider clip fits perfectly. I'll try to get some pictures to post.
