R. Crowder?

I picked up a knife made by an R. Crowder out of Montana. I don't know too much about the knife, but I wanted to get some information if possible. Here's a pic of the knife. It's the bottom one of course.

Hi Troy,

Nice set of knives. Of course I am biased as I designed both of them.

The knife you have is the Rhino by Bob Crowder. I designed that knife and Bob made them in 1990. There were 10 large and 5 small ones made.

Bob is one of those makers who is a part time maker, but has full time maker skills.

Could you give me some more info about the knife. Blade steel, approx. value, ... My biggest question is about the handle material, I know very little about it and was kindda wondering if the fact that some of the "original surface" of it was showing would be considered a defect or is that normal for this type of material. Here's a better pic.

Thank you for the compliment. If you look close you can see some Rod Chappel, Bill Luckett and Jim Hammond influences in there.

The blade steel is 440C, the handle material is the bark Mastodon Ivory. The "defect" is the way it came. I will admit to you that 10 years ago I did not know as much about Ivory as I do now. If I did I would have picked a better piece.

In 1990 that knife sold for $700.00.
