When will the rapid deployment sheath for the commander become available ? I thought at one time the proposed delivery date was the Aug/Sept timeframe. A quick scan of the Emerson Knives website didn't pull up anything. If this sheath is still scheduled for production, will a commander configured for this sheath differ from the regular model or will there be no difference ?

I was looking for something else on the US Patent Office website and and came across the Emerson patent on the Commander (#5,878,500) and it reminded me of the sheath. The site will not respond at this monemt or I would list a URL for everybody. The starting point is http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html for performing a search. To perform a manual search click the appropriate spot and in the provided box type "in/Emerson", (inventor contains the word Emerson). If you have loaded the plug-in from Alterna (www.mieweb.com/alternatiff), drawings accompanying the submission will be diplayed.
The Commander wave is such a simple yet practical idea, how was design created ?

Is the Mil. Spec. version (green blade coating) constructed any differently than the early (serial numbered) versions ? I have one of each and the Titanium liners appear significantly thicker on the mil-spec version. In advance thanks for the info.

According to a Tactical Knives artivle on the ESM-1 (Military predecessor to the Commander), the wave was requested by the Navy originally as a blade catcher. Someone probably got it hooked on their pocket or something else and discovered, likely by accident, the advantages of this little extra piece of metal.

Love it though...
