We will start accepting RC-5 pre-orders from dealers and distributors in January. We plan to begin shipping knives and sheaths the first part of February.

We have finalized the sheath and turned in a purchase order to Eagle for the sheath pictured below. In our opinion, Eagle is the best of the best when it comes to making hard-use gear. This sheath has a gear pocket on the front with double handle retention straps and a removable leg strap. It also has a reinforced MOLLE strap with double snap and a full enclosure belt loop on the back. 100 percent USA made and Berry Amendment compliant. We will be offering the following colors on this sheath: Tan, OD and Black.

This is the RAT CUTLERY RC-5 SERE, not the RAT-5 that Ontario builds.

Handles will be canvas micarta. Blade colors will be choice of black or OD.

As I said before, the RC-5 is not my idea of a knife I would carry but some folks like those big old heavy duty blades ;) We are getting a TON of emails asking when it will be ready so there is a lot of interest in the knife. Once we release it, we will be shipping small lots as we're doing with the RC-6. So far we have shipped about 200 RC-6 knives with more orders to fill. We will release the RC-5 the same way.

Wow, those sheaths are really nice. Okay, I know you will have to give a graded response to this, but will the RC-4 fit in the RC-5 sheath. I realize it won't be as snug, but is it feasible?

I'm not the biggest fan of the .25" thickness myself, but paired with that sheath it makes an interesting combo.

I just tried an RC-4 in the RC-5 Eagle sheaths I have here. It will go but the retention straps are really loose around the knife handle. As long as you are not carrying inverted the RC-4 would not come out and actually doesn't look too bad in there. ;)

As a side note, the Ontario RAT-5 fits this sheath real good and the Ontario TAK will go in the sheath (but the retention straps are a little loose on the handle).

Now, if you want something that's really slick, the RC-3 sheath will slide perfect snug into the gear pouch on the RC-5 sheath so you can double the RC-5 with the RC-3 and have a knife for every occasion at our side. Doesn't add that much weight either. Is RAT Cutlery not slick, or what? ;)

Here's a pic of them piggybacked:

Wow Jeff. You just sold me two knives at once. Pretty hardcore brother. :) Now I have to get an RC-3 also.
