Using a new Nicholson Flat Bastard file, I slowly and meticulously re-profiled the edge on my 5 I had previously re-profiled just using my Sharpmaker. Once I got the file to bite in, it was no problem. Just keep the file clean. I was able to get just the right angle I wanted.

I then used the Sharpmaker and cleaned it up by adjusting the angle of the knife on the stones until they were nicely polished. I should take video of how this shaves hair now, yet is durable enough to cut into and shave seasoned ash.

That edge looks good buddy..i am going to post up a pic of mine that i re profiled.....taking pic now...

What angle was it and what angle did you bring it to?

Do you have just the standard set or do you have the extra diamond rods/extra fine rods? I just ordered both so I'm interested to hear what you've got to say.

Answer to your first two is I have no idea. I do it all by eye. Even the blades I make.

Used the brown rods on the Sharpmaker. They are very well broken in and remove a fair amount of steel.

Sharpmaker? What's that? Just kiddin. I just do freehand too when sharpening. Eyeballing it since my late Grandfather taught me at age 10. I will have to finally try a Sharpmaker one day though.

How long of a process is it to get that job completed. You know in terms of hours, assuming a new file?
