Reality of a Dream

Well dont just stand there, tell us everyting about it. how does it swing, feel, and all that good stuff.:D You are so lucky. I cant afford one right now or any time soon.
:(

Not yet. I'm still admiring it.... and I'm still not done comparing it to the others in my collection.

Here's my initial impression: Let's just say when this thing hits the streets, I expect to see a sudden demand for it. It is that well put together. Should be a great seller if Mike can ever get MT to make them in a sufficient quantity. Make as amny as your can Mike, they'll sell.

wow!

I really wish I had some money:( . I just ordered my first BM (BM42AS). Will the Tachyon be continually produced, or is this it?

Sorry to hear that the wife is 'pushed over the edge' Happened to me once too...but like I always say

'She got the house and the car...but I kept my soul and Penis (and Bali collection)'

Nice of you to post the pictures! Yeah I think you're right....the Tachyon will move proportionally to how many Mike can get out of Mr. Marfione. That part sort of worries me :( ..., but it's nice to know someone actually has one  ....enjoy!!

How exactly does the latch work?
Just like any other bali; it flips around to either side of the handle to lock it open or close. What is most exciting about the latch detail is that the spacer is serving 2 major functions:

1) as a structural strengthener. The 3 torx screws holding it in place allows it to works in conjunction with the tang assembly to make this a very strong sandwich construction. Between the tang and handle pin to the edge of the insert, there's nothing else.

2) It serves as a latch gate; it stops the latch from rotating down into the channel for the blade to hit. The end of it extends through the width of the handle. You'll need them for both side of the handle , because as promised, you can switch the latch to either handle for your preferred style of carry.

It still extends the length of the handle longer than necessary for those that prefer the proper blade to handle ratio.

i must congrat you. i hope i can get such a nice piece some day too. but first thing's first.

edit: forgot to ask if you've manipulated it yet. and if yes, how does it feel?

It feels very well, thank you. Those of you that own SWAT's aluminum version will understand what I mean. The sandwich design shared by both balis leave very little gap in the handle to tang assembly, and results in a bali that flips with little to no rocking sensation during manipulation. And with the sandwich construction, you'll never have to worry about the handles coming out of alignment because one of the forks is being stretched. If it ever gets loose, just give the torx screws a little tighening, and you should be good to go. The handle alignment is the tightest I've seen in a bali. Those titanium slabs does a wonderful job of elimanating any handle flex.

The action is smooth, and can be contributed to the two thick brass bushings between each handle and the tang. It, however, lacks the elongated sensation that the 5" SWAT handles provides when swinging. The short 4 3/4" handles are grippy and light. But the shortness of the handle means the top of the latch is digging into your palm in the foil grip position, when the bali is locked in the open position. But it is exteremely comfortable when held in the ice pick grip. But, for some reason, latch drop moves require a real precise execution and a little more effort than usual.

havent tried any swat, unfortunately..
is it lights? i would imagine that with all those cuts in the handles, it would be pretty light... am i right?

The SWAT is a very good knife. It is very light. The same weight as one of the BM42 but add another inch.
Good the Tachyon is out. Sorry to hear about your wife:(
The guy who sells me the high end knives at the gn show said he wold get a hold of one for me along with a 31.:D :D

Arggghhh, the 31. I don't think she can take another little box coming in... Maybe I'll say the 31 will be my Christmas present. ;)

excuse me, but what the hell is up with your wife? she doesn't like you getting lots of expensive knives all the time? well, is it hers or your money? if it's hers, she has all right to be mad. if it's yours, then she must be after your money. (tell her that these balis will increas in worth by the years. ;) )
sorry if i offended you or your wife, i certainly didn't mean to...
:(

just out of courriosity - how many balis do you buy each month? it sure seems like a lot! :p

Ixpfah:

For the first item, I'll wait until you get married, and then sit back and laugh when you go through the same thing. Let's just say that in a marriage, money is forever an issue.

For the second item: With all due respect: None of your business. I share with this forum what I have come to understand in terms of their tolerance (October's purchase results notwithstanding). My recent acquisitions are because I'm making up for some lost time. I can't help myself when I'm finding all these wonderful bali's for sale.

about marrige, i bet you're right.

about buying new balis: i most certainly understand you!

The worst thing is the wife is right all too often. I was looking a at new car and she said, no problem, just think what you could have if were not spending $500.00 a month on knives.

yeah, i bet that's true...
guess it becomes a bit different when you're married, since you're not only spending money on yourself, but you share it with your wife/husband for paying house, car, perhaps you have children etc...

good reason not to get married, yes? :p

Posted some new pic's. I'm starting to get the hang of the new digital camera (Canon A20) but was hampered by a really stupid design (the Close-up lens attachment obstructs about 75% of the flash, and there is no external hot shoe for a slave flash). So, I'll post more when I get good decent shots.

Taking request for anything on the Tachyon anyone want to get a closer look at.

Cool! Glad you love the Tachyon Tony. I will be posting a BOATLOAD of pics on the actual production pieces as soon as this weekend (I hope). The main differences between your piece and actual production is the following.

First only 2 production prototypes exist.
Both are hand ground by Tony.
Neither have the blood groove.
Both have a bead blasted spacer and production will have anodized versions.
Both boxes should be signed by me. I think I did this but am not sure.

Enjoy!
