I received my Bushcraft knife earlier in the week and I thought I would share my initial impressions of the knife.

My knife came in natural micarta with a #1 sheath.

General appearance: This is a very attractive knife, with a purposeful, yet elegant look about it. The unfinished flats contrast nicely with the primary grind and the natural micarta has a nice textured look to it.

Sharpness: Mine did not come as sharp as others have described. A little work on the edge soon had it shaving sharp though. Edge holding appears to be very good.

Ergonomics: The knife feels great in the hand and allows for excellent control. I can see this knife easily fulfilling the role it was designed for. I did a little carving and notching with it and am very pleased with the results. The positioning of the thumb ramp is right on and the teeth have just enough bite to give traction without being abrasive to the thumb. I have large hands and the handle is sized perfectly. The micarta scales have a nice feel and enough traction that they should work well, even if wet.

Fit and Finish: This is the only area I can find fault with the knife - and it is a bit of a nitpick at that. The general fit and finish are great, but there is one area that could see some improvement: The thumb ramp has a few partial grooves both ahead and behind it. A couple of these grooves do not span the width of the spine and are a bit unsightly. They do not match the depth of the regular thumb ramp grooves and appear superficial. I'm thinking the partial grooves can probably be sanded out. This is purely a cosmetic issue, but one that several people that handled the knife noticed right away.

Sheath: I ordered the #1 dangler sheath. It is of very good quality and holds the knife securely. The firesteel loop holds an Army sized firesteel just right. The scout firesteel fits, but not quite as securely.

Overall I think this is a fantastic knife. Considering the steel used, the quality of the design, the price and ergonomics - it is a true bargain.

I would also like to thank Dan for sharing the build process with us. It's been really fun watching the whole process and it was capped off nicely with the delivery of such a fine knife.

Thanks for the review and honest critique, Hartsell!!!

I'm really pleased with that sheath. Carries well and really holds the knife securely.
