Which custom slipjoint makers use 52100?

I am interested in getting a custom sometime in the next year or so, and i have a real fondness for 52100.

I would also be interested in one in 1084, O1, or some other good carbon steel.

I have in mind a Wharncliffe Trapper

For starters:

Kerry Hampton (not forged but the 52100 will have a great heat treat and Kerry knows the pattern well)
Jerry Halfrich will also work with 52100 upon request and has built a wharncliffe trapper or two in the past.

These gentlemen know and forge 52100 though you'd have to find out if a wharncliffe trapper was something they might do.

Ray Kirk, M.S.
Ray Smith, M.S.
P.J. Tomes, M.S.

Would it be a violation of any forum rules to ask for some pictures of these guys' work?

I have a neck knife I went to Ray Kirk's and picked up several years ago.

The 52100 steel in that little dude is amazing. It will get screaming sharp and stay that way.

Not at all...I have work by all these makers but my only wharncliffe trappers are in D2 and CPM-154 by J.B. Moore and Mike Zscherny (respectively).

Ray Kirk is an outstanding maker and a close friend. His steel is excellent.

If you are looking for other images besides the WT, just say the word.

I'd be interested in seeing any work by the above mentioned makers.

Ray Kirk is one of the nicest guys in the knife business...does he make slipjoints other than the Scagel styles?

I'm only familiar personally with Ray's Scagel models. I have several of his fixed blades going back over the past ten or twelve years as well.

Wow...those are breathtaking!

That "Lanny's Clip" is one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen.

+1

Of all Kerry Hampton's knives, that might just be my favorite.

Thanks...it was one of my better ideas to have asked Kerry to do that for our first project together. (The "Lanny's Clip" is a Tony Bose pattern and Tony was kind enough to provide both the pattern and heat treat for this knife.)

Kerry came up with the idea of adding the acid etch for both its look as well as protection from oxidation.

WT by Kerry with 52100 and acid etched blades. (A bonus of getting a knife from Kerry is getting his great pictures as well.)

I've always loved that WT, Mike. She's a beauty!

Don't forget about A2. Kerry Hampton uses that as well.

My modified KHnutbuster.
