I've never owned a decent Case knife. For whatever reason, every Case I've ever owned or handled was a POS in one way or another. Now that I've come full circle and am "into" traditional folders again, I'd like to see if Case can walk the walk.

Okay, now the rules. No tru-sharp. No yeller composite. No slipjoints (must have some kind of lock). Has to be something of recent (zippo era) manufacture. Must sell for something around 50 bux or less. Going over fifty bucks would require something really exotic like mammoth ivory, India stag, ATS-34, or something really attractive.

I looked at the Shepherd Hills catalog and basically gave up. Maybe I missed something. Recommendations?

harry, i dont think CASE has the knife you're looking for. check your local gas/convenience store. they should have it.

A little more then you want to spend, but worth it. Trapperlock.

There's a deal killer for you...lol. Kinda like telling your Chevy salesman I want a Vette but must be new and sell for under 20 grand...just isn't going to happen. Best bet has already been mentioned, a Case Trapper Lock. But expect about $70 plus shipping.

Whoa! I like the looks of the trapperlock. Looks like New Graham Pharmacy has them for just over 70 bucks. That's not actually a deal killer. Chestnut bone, CV steel, thumbstud opener, liner lock... Hmm....

We're on the right track folks. Nice looking blade.

Well there ya go...I think in CV that is going to be your best bet from Case...wish they would do the old lock backs like the Sharktooth in CV but don't see that ever happening.

How about a John Deer russlock?

Might look into a Hammerhead or Mid folding Hunter.

Good luck in the search.

HC, git in da truck and come up. Bet u didnt even know we had Case! Roads should be clear Monday.

Trapperlock Really, I would not lie. They are the smoothest thing out there. It feels weird how smooth they are to open. At 4inch plus, big enough to do anything, small enough for pocket carry. Doesnt look like a weapon. Copperlock is also great. In fact, I love the trapper pattern. Now that it is clear as mud, good luck.

Either a Trapperlock or a Copperlock either a mini or a regular.
I am looking for a Amber bone Trapperlock with a CV blade.

The Trapperlock is the only lockblade knife that Case currently manufactures with CV blade steel.

Harry, are you sure you really want to try a Case?

I only ask, because you laid down guidelines that rule out 98% of what Case makes. I can only wonder if you really want to try a 'traditional' folder at all, since you are looking for what appears to be some sort of modern semi-tactical knife.

May I ask you why it has to have a lock on the blade?

Agreed. It really does eliminate most of the Case offerings...
If you can eliminate the need for a lock, your possibilities will be almost endless.

I'm curious, how many Case knives have you owned? It seems odd that they were all a p.o.s in one way or an other.

Hey Mike, I'm planning a trip to the pharmacy soon. Gonna poke around the Case showcases before making up my mind. In the past I've never paid much attention, but one thing's certain. Y'all have the largest selection of Case knives I've ever seen.

To answer other questions... I want the locking blade (if possible) because I've become accustomed to locking blades and don't know if I trust a slippie anymore. A non-locker wouldn't be a deal killer but it would have to be one cool slipjoint. The Trapperlock is looking good, best recommendation so far. I'm going to check them out at the pharmacy in person as 4 inches seems just a shade on the big side for down-in-the-pocket carry. Also, I've seen enough quality issues with Case over the years to prevent me from mail ordering one.

But y'all are correct. Limiting the choice to a CV locking blade model basically eliminates 99% of the current Case catalog. On the Shepherd Hills website they listed ATS-34 as a blade steel and I looked everywhere on that site for a model that uses that blade steel. Nothing. Was that a mis-print or what? Does Case indeed offer ATS-34 blades?

The only Case knives (I believe) in ATS-34 are the Case- Bose collaborations which are very nice. The only problem is you aren't going to get one of them unless you are ready to shell out well over $100. What are all these problems you have seen with case knives? All mine are pretty sweet.

We have the Bose Nofolk in ATS-34 and a few red bone patterns in 154CM by Case. We should have the Trapperlock in CV. Also the slimlock in BG-42 steel. There is more to Case than many realize. Biggest drawback is Case seems to charge a little too much on the premium steels (not true for the
CV steel which is excellent if you can live with the discoloration of high carbon). md
