Recommendation for a beginner

I've been looking at getting a set of throwing knives for a while now, but I just don't know what exactly to get. I am new to knife throwing, so I was wondering was you guys would recommend for a beginner. I've had my eye on a Gil Hibben Generation 2 Pro Thrower set, but I don't know anything about them, like balance, weight, etc. I can't really afford to spend more than $50 on a set at this time, but I'm sure I'll get something more expensive in the future, once I fluently throw my knives. So, a recommendation for this beginner would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help and input :) .

If I only had 50 bucks to spend I would save a little more and buy quality.Buy once, cry once. We need a sticky list of suppliers here. I am impressed by our moderator Bobby Brantons work and prices. I see his model 8# comes in a set of 3 for 65 bucks. At 9 1/2" looks like they would make a great beginner set that would serve you well for a lifetime. The text says they come with fiber handles, but there is none on the example in the picture.

hi,
I learned from Bobby that the prices on his web page are for a single knife, so a set of those would be $195.

My favorites among the many cheaper mass produced knives i have tried are the cold steel cord wrapped throwers. They are made of 1050 carbon steel, are nice and heavy, and 12" long. They go for $15 apiece at some online dealers. You could get a set for $45 plus shipping, to put you just over your $50 mark.

If you cut up the cords you can just re-do the wrap. Watch for burrs created by other knives hitting the handle. They can slice your hand open--as i learned the hard way. Just file them down if they occur. They are single edge knives which is probably safer for starting out. Just try to master the handle throw, then you can move on to a blade throw if you want. For the blade throw you have a blunt edge. I heard one guy had his break, but mine have been fine, and I throw pretty hard. (I had a 13.5 inch hibbon break on me.) These knives are much easier to throw than the small throwers. Also they will not get bent up right off the bat like those cheap chinese throwers you will see at martial arts stores for 5-$10 per knife--dont waste your money on those.

Correction! R. Ellis was right. Those #8's are $65 for the set of 3. All the others are priced for a single knife. I should have checked first. Sorry about that.
