recycling leather?

More appropriately re-using leather... anybody every made a small sheath outta found leather goods, specifically heavier leather? Boots, Belts, etc.
just curious i have a trusty pair of leather harness boots that might yield enough leather for a small sheath or pouch for a slippie.

I haven`t tried boot leather, yet. A few years ago I found an old 70s Hippie purse at the local thrift store. For 2.50, I got three good sheaths, two mistakes. and enough to make one more of iether. I saved the leather that it was stiched with, and the shoulder strap is long enough for a belt. I`m always on the lookout for scrap leather. It`s good to practice on.
